DIY Valentine's Gift Ideas

The other day, I posted my Valentine's Day gift guide, with lots of beauty and lifestyle goodies that you could treat your loved one to/ask for this Valentine's Day. However, not everyone wants to splash the cash, so I've come up with a few do it yourself ideas, if your budget is a little lower, or you just want to add a bit more of a personal touch. It will certainly show your Valentine that you've put a lot of thought and effort in.

Make your own chocolates or biscuits
There's loads of boxes of chocolates on offer in supermarkets over the Valentine's period, but why not make your own? Really pretty gift boxes are easy to come by, and affordable, then all your need to do is fill it with sweet treats, such as this chocolate truffle recipe, or this one for salted caramel chocolate hearts - very Valentine's appropriate! If biscuits are more your thing, how about these buttery heart biscuits. The presentation doesn't have to be the best in the world, as just knowing how much effort you've gone to will make your loved one happy - plus I'm sure they'll get demolished pretty quickly anyway!

Create a photo collage
So many of our memories get stored online these days, but having something visual in the home is a great way to look back on happy times. There are loads of cheap frames available from the likes of IkeaHobbycraft or even your local pound store, and getting the photos printed at Boots is very reasonable, if you don't have the equipment to print out your own at home. Pick out your favourite photos of the two of you together and arrange them to make a beautiful collage. You could even add in a few cute decorations, or tickets and stubs from places you've visited together to add a bit of variety to the collage.

Frame a quote, poem or song
Most couples have a song that means a lot to them, or perhaps there's a quote that your loved one really likes. Print it out using pretty style fonts, or even get one delivered if you can find it online, and stick it in a frame, like the ones linked above. This would make a great addition to your home or office, and will remind your loved one of you whenever they look at it. If your particularly good at writing yourself, and a bit of a romantic, you could write a poem of your own for them & frame it.

Put together a date night box
Buy a wicker hamper or a gift box from a card shop, and fill it with lots of date night goodies to ensure you and your Valentine have the perfect date night in. You can make this as cheap or expensive as you like depending on what you decide to put in there, but a few suggestions are a box of choccies, a DVD, a candle, some goodies from the Lush Valentine's collection or a little bottle of wine. Of course, the possibilities with this gift are endless, and if you can incorporate something a little personal to the two of you, even better!

Do you have any DIY Valentine's gift ideas?

  1. Along with a photo collage I'd really recommend making someone a photo book, it's basically like a personalised photo album :)
